This Month: Goal Setting

All employees are encouraged to set and track goals with their supervisor, so this month we’ll focus on effective goal setting. The SMART goal-setting method helps provide structure to any goal, whether it is a performance goal, a development plan or a personal goal. In this model, SMART is an acronym for:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound

A SMART goal is concrete, easily tracked and has a clear endpoint. In addition, SMART goals are most effective when set collaboratively with your supervisor. To learn more about SMART goals, refer to the Goal Setting Tips resource.

Our system transforms lives by collaborating to achieve mutual success.

Take a few minutes this month to better understand our systemwide budget. It is every employee's responsibility to be a good steward of the resources entrusted to the university and to make decisions that support the mission of the University.

Words have the power to hurt or to provide a sense of belonging, so it’s important that we’re conscious of the language we use when describing people. Because everyone has different preferences, speaking about people in a respectful way requires a willingness to admit you don’t know and to learn and ask questions. Learn more about using inclusive terminology with the Language of Identity handout.
