Statewide Public Institutions Boot Camp

The University of Missouri (UM) System is hosting an Open Education Resources Boot Camp as a continuation of the Open Education Resources Summit that was hosted in March. In response to requests heard at the summit, this conference serves as an opportunity for continued collaboration with others who will be implementing Open Education Resources.

Conference Details

  • In this workshop, Nicole Finkbeiner will draw on her experiences working with over 200+ colleges and universities on their OER initiatives, as well as her marketing background, to guide participants through a process to create or refresh their marketing efforts and strategy around encouraging faculty to adopt OER. Each participant will walk away with a plan to increase OER use at their institution.

Special rates are available to conference attendees who book a room at the event location, The Statewide Public Institutions OER Boot Camp will take place at the Hampton Inn & Suites Columbia. If you will be traveling out of town for the conference and would like to reserve a room, you can make your reservations online with your preferred method of payment.

Director of Institutional Relations Nicole Finkbeiner, Openstax, Rice University

Nicole Finkbeiner is the Associate Director of Institutional Relations for Rice University’s free textbook initiative, OpenStax, where she focuses on developing and managing the relationships with faculty adopters and administrators. A graduate of Kellogg Community College, Western Michigan University and Michigan State University, Finkbeiner worked in college relations for community colleges prior to joining OpenStax. When not promoting Open Educational Resources, she fills her time working on civil rights issues, reading, working out and dragging her friends to random cultural events.

UM Faculty Intensive Symposium

The University of Missouri (UM) System is hosting an Intensive Open Educational Resources (OER) Symposium for all UM faculty. This four-hour event will provide faculty development training for those interested in incorporating open educational resources into their courses. This opportunity was developed for full-time faculty who teach as a part of their workload.

Topics of discussion include: what is OER, how to identify OER, and how to check the quality of OER. The symposium will conclude with an Open Textbook Library review training session. Those that attend this symposium and then complete a textbook review will receive $250.
