Sheryl Feutz-Harter has over 30 years of experience in health care law, with an emphasis on operational and regulatory compliance as they relate to clinical and bioethical issues, risk management, Medical Staff issues, professional licensure actions, and HIPAA. This has included issues such as consents, clinical research, involuntary commitments, guardianships, professional review activities, EMTALA and government surveys. Sheryl has developed and implemented compliance programs for a variety of health care entities and business associates, and previously served as General Counsel, Compliance Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer for a managed behavioral health organization. Sheryl also defended medical malpractice cases for over ten years.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Sheryl practiced as a nurse. This included working as an occupational health nurse and, from that experience along with her legal experience, Sheryl has developed extensive knowledge of the occupational health laws and has audited and prepared compliance programs related to the medical requirements under OSHA.
Throughout her career, Sheryl has worked with a variety of health care entities and related organizations, providers and business associates, routinely assisting them with drafting policies and procedures, providing educational programs, and interpreting and implementing Federal and State laws. For nine months, Sheryl served as Interim General Counsel for a health care system.
