A member of the Office of the General Counsel since 1991, Kelly K. Mescher represents the university on a wide range of issues including employment, constitutional law, civil rights and discrimination issues, faculty and student issues, grants and contracts and litigation. She came to the university with nearly 10 years of appellate and litigation experience in the Attorney General's Office acting first as an appellate attorney (1981-1982) then as a litigation attorney (1982-1984) and finally as a unit leader in the litigation division (1984-1991).

Mescher received a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in history and education from William Jewell College in 1978 and a J.D. with distinction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Missouri and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Tenth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court.
