Dear UM System employees,
As news about the coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to emerge, myself and other leaders across our system are closely monitoring the situation. Although there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Missouri, we are working with partners in public health to swiftly respond should a case arrive. Earlier this week, officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that clusters of infection are likely in the U.S. The proactive measures we take now will help reduce our risk to COVID-19 and other viral illness, such as the flu.
I urge you to take proactive measures, too, so you can stay healthy and support the health of others. Stay at home if you are ill, and read about established best practices for avoiding viruses or the flu and practice them regularly.
As an additional precaution, each of our universities has declared no new University-sponsored travel to China or South Korea will be approved, given the current Level 3 warnings for both countries. This will be also carried out for UM System employees. We will continue to follow the recommendations and guidelines of our public health authorities, and ask that all UM System employees be mindful when making any personal travel plans.
Sincerely,
Mun Y. Choi, Ph.D.
UM System President
