Dear University community,
The University of Missouri Board of Curators voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Mun Choi to serve as interim chancellor at Mizzou in addition to his role as president of the UM System. Dr. Choi will lead the university following Alexander Cartwright’s acceptance of a position at the University of Central Florida.
During unprecedented challenges in Missouri and around the world, it is important to maintain proven leadership to enable swift and efficient action for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff and communities. In addition to this appointment, the Board intends to evaluate the organizational structure of the University and will not initiate a new chancellor search at this time.
President Choi has cultivated a renewed spirit of partnership across the UM System. The power of our alignment and collaboration is demonstrated by the NextGen Precision Health Initiative, which combines the best talent and research at Mizzou, UMSL, Missouri S&T and UMKC. This initiative will improve treatments for many diseases, increase access to health care for Missourians, and drive economic growth for the state.
During his tenure, Dr. Choi has inspired renewed confidence of elected officials, alumni, community leaders and citizens throughout Missouri. His leadership has brought improved access to education for all students, drove university enrollments, increased research, enacted operational efficiencies, enhanced engagement and service to all corners of our state, and expanded and improved health services.
Finally, in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, the board recognizes the extraordinary efforts of our faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, students and their families in continuing our educational mission, as well as providing health care and other community support. Your resiliency and service to others during these difficult times is inspiring. Thank you.
